Sean Ryan Satin, 51, of New York City, passed away on April 19, 2024. Born in Brooklyn on September 16, 1972, he was the beloved husband of Amerie Vega-Satin and son of Scott Satin.
Sean was preceded in death by his mother, Diane (Freeman) Satin. He was also the proud father to Tarrega, his beautiful puppy son who he adored. Sean was a music teacher and classical guitarist by profession. He attended Sheepshead Bay High School and pursued his higher education at Manhattan School of Music for his undergraduate studies and Columbia University for his graduate studies.
He dedicated his life to sharing his passion for music with others and was a caring music teacher at places such as (but not limited to), Greenwich House Music School, the Mozartina Conservatory,Tarrytown Music Hall Academy and the Horace Mann School. Sean’s students loved him immensely and his impact as a mentor to countless classical guitar students will forever be etched in his legacy.
Sean’s passion was playing the classical guitar. He was part of the contemporary music organization, Composers Concordance, whose concerts he premiered numerous solo and chamber compositions as well as co-produced events with the organization. He also produced his own solo classical guitar recitals at Greenwich House, Spectrum NYC, Turtle Bay Music School and other venues. Growing up as a metal head in the 80’s in Brooklyn, he performed on electric guitar in a duo with his childhood friend Gene Pritsker, in ensembles with Tilted Axes: Music for Mobile Electric Guitars, and other musicians and groups. Sean had a sensitive musical sensibility, and a natural understanding of art and aesthetics that shone brightly in his playing and interpretations of older musical masterpieces and greatly added to brand new compositions that he premiered.
For over the last 20 years, Sean traded the heat and hustle of New York City for the woods of Porter, Maine, and taught music at Maine Teen Camp during the summer months. Teaching guitar theory or mentoring a band of beginner musicians amid the towering pine trees and beside clear lakes saw Sean at his happiest. It was at camp he was able to express his wonderful sense of humor and playful side. Whether putting on full KISS face paint to play with a staff band, dressing up as a Rolling Stone to serve as a judge for camper talent shows, or grabbing the tongs and manning a grill to cook steak for 200 people, Sean made an unforgettable contribution to this community. During his summers at camp, Sean worked, taught, and played music with thousands of staff and campers from all around the world, and called all of them friends.
Sean met his wife Amerie in 2013 and it was love at first sight. He immediately swooned Amerie with his disarming sense of humor and by serenading her with his classical guitar. They shared their first kiss on Butler Lawn at Columbia University. The rest is history. They had their fabulous Jersey Shore wedding on November 13th, 2022 and were looking forward to a lifetime together with their little puppy, Tarrega and endless lobster dinners. We all know Sean loved lobster.
Sean will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched across the globe.

Peggy Gao
Peggy Gao, beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, surrounded by her devoted family. She is survived by her devoted son Nick, cherished granddaughters Madeleine and Evelyn, caring daughter-in-law Tiffany and her brother Eddy and his family. She also has loving cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members in the US, Canada and China.
Peggy's life journey was marked by resilience, determination, hard-work and a deep commitment to family. She was born during WWII in a war-torn China at a military hospital where her parents were doctors on the front-lines of the war effort. Her family moved to Wuhan following the war, where her father became the director of the largest hospital there and her mom was a nurse. It was also during her childhood growing up at the hospital, where she met Prof. Gao, her future husband. Across early decades of her life that were filled with the turbulence of post-war China and political upheavals, she eventually became a professional volleyball player and then a professor of athletics at the Wuhan university. It is also in this setting where Peggy gave birth to her son Nick, and built her family.
Peggy embarked on a new chapter in 1982 when she made the audacious decision to immigrate to the United States in search of a better life. Settling first in Boston, she later lived briefly in Westchester, spent a decade in Montreal and then almost 20 yrs in Delaware. Some of her happiest moments were in Delaware, cultivating connections with students and friends, helping her husband build a career at the university and embracing new experiences — before finally relocating in 2018 to be closer to her family in NYC.
Throughout her life, Peggy pursued several different professions, each reflecting her versatility and commitment to excellence. From teaching volleyball to working in the campus police department, from being the chief-of-staff of a high school principal to a broker in the insurance industry, from contributing to the educational institutions of MIT/McGill/Udel to her most recent position at a tech start-up she helped built, Peggy approached every endeavor with diligence and enthusiasm. However, her greatest joy and accomplishment came from supporting her husband's academic pursuits and raising her son, Nick, whom she gave boundless love and care.
In her final chapter, Peggy found solace and joy in the role of a devoted grandmother. She spent her days tutoring her granddaughters, nurturing their minds and instilling in them the same values of perseverance and resilience that defined her own life. Alongside her beloved granddaughters, Peggy found comfort in the companionship of her two small dogs, Coconut and Mochi, their presence bringing warmth and laughter to her home.
As we mourn Peggy's passing, let us celebrate the legacy of love, resilience, and generosity that she leaves behind. Let’s remember her incredible journey and the many challenges she overcame. May her memory continue to inspire us to embrace life with courage, compassion, and grace.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Peggy's life at FG Guido Funeral Home, 440 Clinton Street, Brooklyn, NY, (718) 852-2324 on Monday, April 22nd, from 10 am to 1 pm, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, 500 25th Street, Brooklyn. For those unable to attend in person, arrangements have been made for remote participation via Zoom: Peggy Gao Memorial Service Zoom link. Flowers may be sent and coordinated directly with the funeral home. Gloria Mae Cadle, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024. Born on January 28, 1955, Gloria lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments with her family and friends.
Gloria's journey took her on many adventures, including serving Queen Elizabeth II, a testament to her dedication and grace. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, indulging in good food and frequenting movie theaters, where she relished in the magic of cinema.
A woman of diverse interests, Gloria cultivated hobbies that brought her immense joy. Whether perusing the aisles of Target, escaping into the pages of a good book, or mastering the latest mobile game, she approached each endeavor with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Above all, Gloria was a devoted mother to her six children: Tiffany, Courtney, Kirk, Andre, Trivion, and Natalie. Her love knew no bounds, and she poured her heart into nurturing and guiding each of them. She also cherished her bond with her sisters, Glenda and Georgia Bell, who shared in her laughter and supported her through life's journey.
Gloria's legacy lives on through her ten grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Though Gloria's departure has left a void in our lives, we find solace in the memories of her infectious laughter and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Today, we honor her spirit and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.

Brianna Nicole Phair was born in Washington, DC on May 3, 1989 to father Dr. John Gladden, a Dentist, and mother Jeanette Marie Phair, a talented programmer and code writer. Brianna and her mother spent her early years in Auburn, NY, her mom’s birth place and home to her family. They later moved to West Henrietta, NY and were soon joined by a brother Ryan. Brianna visited her father in Maryland often and spent time each summer meeting her family there and in Philadelphia.
Brianna’s Mother passed away unexpectedly at age 39. Brianna, at age 14, relocated to Maryland to live with her Dad. She graduated from Hammond High School in Howard County 2007 and earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in 2011. Dr. Phair completed her training and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 2017. She moved to Northern Virginia and kept close ties with her older brother Brandon and his family. She relocated to Brooklyn, NY and worked in a variety of settings including retail, hospital, and specialty pharmacies. Coming to New York allowed her to continue her relationship with cherished best friend, Michaniya Cunningham, who she met in undergraduate school and maintained a lifelong relationship.
Brianna had a good heart. She was a loyal friend, a loving and generous daughter and sister and was driven by her academic pursuits. She loved to travel and often spoke of returning to Iceland, her favorite travel adventure. But, depression made the world a difficult place for her and sadly she was deeply affected by it. She will be remembered for her dimpled smile that could melt your heart, her sense of humor and her ironic observations of people and the world. She had an analytical mind and expected much from herself and those around her. She loved her family, her best friend, her cats (Hugo and Milo), and her novels. She will not be forgotten by those of us who loved her. She is survived by her Father Dr. Gladden, Brothers Brandon Gladden and Ryan Phair Gibson, Sister Sonya Woodall, nieces and nephew, best friend and housemate Michaniya Cunningham, and aunts, uncles and cousins.

This morning God and his angel escorted my husband, my best friend, my soulmate, Sal Barone through the final phase of his earthly journey into heaven. Although I do and will continue to miss him terribly, I know he’s in a better place. I also know that heaven just got better! Sal will be greatly missed by so many. He was a great husband to me, kind and generous stepfather to Lauren (Mag) Mallisk, excellent devoted father to two sons, Vincent and Adam, and loving cat dad to Zorro, Sophie and Char. Sal was brilliant scientist who contributed greatly to his industry as a generous mentor and teacher and inventor of 63+ patents. He was a great friend to so many. Beloved wife of Nicholas Marshall, cherished mother of Jennifer (Andrew), Leslie (Mauro) and Caroline (Kenny) and beloved aunt Mimi to her niece Diane. She was the baby of her loving family, adored by her parents Carmelo and Elvira Rufo, brothers Peter and Larry and her sister Lucy, who predeceased her. Mary (Nana) was deeply loved by her nine grandchildren: Sophia, Nico, Theo, Sam, Lucas, Nina, Mary, Ivy and Oonagh and they were her greatest joy in life.
Mary was born and raised in New York City, graduated from Hunter High School and Hunter College, and was an entrepreneur way ahead of her time with the founding of a temporary staffing agency for New York’s top law firms. Mary loved to travel and with Nick introduced her daughters to the art and culture of Europe and inspired their love of travel, food, exploration, and collecting beautiful art and objects from around the world. She was a true New Yorker who devoured the New York Times every day and followed politics closely, and always voiced her very strong opinions. She accomplished so much in her rich, colorful life and she will be remembered most for her devotion to her family.
Mary’s family is eternally grateful to the staff, aides, nurses and doctors at Willow Gardens in New Rochelle — a special group of angels who loved her and cared for her as if she was their mother. George Joseph Smith, née Gribbons
George Smith, 80, of New York City passed away, Saturday, March 18, 2023. Born December 11,1942, in Worcester, MA, the son of John T. Gribbons and Evelyn (Rathay) (Gribbons) Smith.
It is difficult to say exactly where George hails from as he was a man whose history was as enigmatic and colorful as his personality. When he was a young child, George and his mom moved to the sunny shores of Hollywood Florida. He was later joined by his step father and two twin brothers. George loved spending time collecting coconuts for local
tourists and eating spaghetti at his Memere’s house.
After enlisting in the United States Navy, George quickly rose in ranks, becoming a Radio Intelligence Operator. He earned a Golden Shellback award for crossing both the equator and the International Date line (and of course enduring the initiation!)
George graduated from the University of Florida, where he studied with Jerry Uelsmann and earned a degree in photography.
A prized position with renowned photographer, Pete Turner, brought him to NYC. He photographed the spring and fall Prêt-à-Porter fashion shows in NY, Paris, London and Milan for many years.
George was on an eclectic spiritual journey throughout his life, exploring mysticism of all kinds. His daughters meant the world to him! He was a prolific collage-artist and poet.
Survivors include three daughters, Crystal, Karina and Erin, and two brothers Jerome and James. His parents, John and Evelyn predeceased him.
Memorial Mass will be Saturday, April 15, 2023, 11:00 a.m.

This is your life Miss Rubye Alice Barnett-Goode. Today you are 90 and what a journey you've had.
Growing up in a small town in rural Mississippi in the 30s, 40s, and 50s was not for the weak of heart. However, you came from good stock and was able to circumvent the dark waters of the deep south. You attended the famed Tuskegee University earning a Bachelor of Science. You followed that up by coming to the Big Apple after receiving a scholarship to attend Columbia University in 1954. After receiving your Masters Degree in Public Health Nutrition you got your first job at Jacobi Hospital as a dietitian in 1956. Always an excellent test taker at the ripe age of 27 you were appointed head dietitian.
However, at 35 you felt you needed a change. So you went to the Department of Health in the position as a public health nutritionist. Today they talk about food deserts. You knew all about under serviced areas not having good selections of fruits and vegetables. You traveled by subway/bus to all the City run health departments. You taught black and brown folks how to lower their fat and sugar intake. Encouraged them to lose weight sensibility so they wouldn't have to take medication for high blood pressure and diabetes.
But your services were not limited to just NYC.
You certified Head Start programs throughout New York State and Puerto Rico.
You taught classes on Nutrition at Cornell University and New York University.
In the 90s when the Health Commissioner who was a very round man from Minnesota advised Mayor Dinkins that the perfect way for the City to save money was to eliminate the Bureau of Nutrition. Why not it was a department filled with women and a gay man.
However, as you always advised young professionals, you took the Civil service examination for Supervising Nutritionist. When the Bureau of Nutrition was eliminated, you told the powers that be, including Rudy Giuliani that as a civil servant they had to find you a job. You were always well-versed on the rules.
So that's how you ended up as the Supervising Nutritionist for NYPD.
When you retired at 85, and I assisted in getting your affairs together, so many uniformed as well as NYPD brass told me how helpful you were in assisting them in becoming healthier.
So after 60 years of teaching New Yorkers how to eat right and exercise regularly you retired. You were and still are the prototype for a nutritionist. At the age of 90 you take no medications.
But the most important thing about you, you are a great example for young women to follow. You were for me. If life doesn't turn out quite the way you wanted it to, you don't roll over, give up, or give in. You keep it moving.
